It’s been a very long time since it felt like Romania is a truly democratic country (and I am referring primarily to the presence of citizens in the public sphere). The protests are not just against austerity measures. They are directly aimed at the current government, it’s repeated abuse of power and undemocratic means and methods, not least unquestionable incompetence.
